Since there are so many products out there, which ones truly work and which ones are just thinning out our wallets? Find out what ingredients make a skin cream a good moisturizer for aging skin.

The first thing that's important to know when looking and ultimately purchasing a product for dry skin and problems that come with aging is to know if the product fits your skin's needs. Do you have dry or very dry skin, does your skin crack or flake much, do you have any dry skin conditions? These are some of the questions you need to answer prior to getting a moisturizer. If you have an answer for these questions, it might be a little bit easier for you to find a product that is suitable for your skin type and/or condition.

Main Ingredients that Work!

Most moisturizers now a day not only address dryness, but they also serve as a remedy for ageing skin care, dryness caused by the use of medications or specific conditions of the skin. They are basically multipurpose because we all want a little extra help in the beauty department any day! But what combination of ingredients would tackle everything you need?

Wrinkle, Age Spot Removal & Dry Skin Relief

The sun has been and still is our enemy, especially when it comes to premature aging. Dry skin, fine lines, wrinkles and age spots are slowly appearing and not only taking our looks away, but also our confidence. Looking young is something that we all thrive for and we have all heard the phrase "40s is the new 30s", but how do they do it, how do they keep their youthful glow, texture and of course tone? The answer is in the ingredients!

Rumex Extract: This extra ingredient is used in moisturizing creams that target pigmentation problems. It's a natural compound but effective in regulating melanin production, so if you have or want to prevent age spots, try a product that uses Rumex extract.

Hyaluronic Acid: This is probably a very know ingredient if you are interested in combating fine lines and wrinkles with your regular moisturizer. Hyaluronic acid is naturally occurring, but decreases as we age. A topical form of HA will help your skin look and feel younger because it makes the skin firmer.

Snail Secretion: Yes, the secretion of the land snail Helix Aspersa Muller is a great ingredient to have in any moisturizer. It is very popular due to the fact that this incredible compound can tackle just about any skin condition you might have in addition to boosting the proliferation of collagen and elastin and restoring water holding molecules to protect and repair the skin. How Skin Ages and What You Can Do About It!

How Skin Ages and What You Can Do About It!

Your skin is an organ like all the other organs in your body, and unfortunately as it ages it simply looks older and less attractive. If you put extra stress on your skin, from sunlight, smoking, or bad diet, natural aging effects are increased!

When you are young, your skin regenerates every 15 to 18 days, but this slows down as you age. When you are in your mid 30s, this regeneration takes much longer, about a month, and by the time you hit your 70s, regeneration will take several months.

As you age, the epidermis layer of your skin becomes thinner. Collagen also breaks down and your skin simply becomes less elastic and wrinkles and saggy skin result. Oil production from sebaceous glands decreases and pores become larger and clog. Also capillaries and broken blood vessels become more visible, adding to the aged look.

These aging factors, called intrinsic factors, and simply going to happen. However we can control extrinsic or non age related factors. Extrinsic factors affect your skin significantly and can cause premature aging - if you let them.

Extrinsic factors you have some control over include sunlight, exposure to pollution, and smoking, all to be minimized if at all possible to help keep your skin younger looking or at least from aging faster than otherwise. Wearing a hat and otherwise covering up in the sun, avoiding midday sun, and using suntan lotion are all helpful, as is not smoking and avoiding second hand smoke.

Your skin will naturally age just like all the other organs in your body. You have some control over this aging via extrinsic factors, and no surprise but the biggest one is avoiding excessive sunlight!

The Consequences of Not Taking Good Care of Your Skin

The Consequences of Not Taking Good Care of Your Skin

Healthy skin allows you to look younger and prettier. So if you are the proud owner of healthy skin, don't take it for granted. Put in the effort to protect your skin, for there are severe consequences for not doing so.

You will start to encounter skin problems if it's too dry, too oily, or too dirty. Your job is to make sure that the natural balance of the skin is not severely upset. If it is, then you need to take measures to correct the skin balance.

When skin is too dry, it tends to become brittle. Dry skin peels and cracks very easily. Sometimes, if the condition is severe enough, there may even be faint visible scars on the skin. If you have great look skin, don't let that happen. If your skin is exposed to the sun during the day, make sure you apply moisturizer to restore the balance during the evening.

Sometimes, skin can become too oily due to various reasons. You may be working in an oily environment. Or you may have oily skin because of genetic reasons. In this case, you need to get rid of the excess oil on your skin. If you don't, there is a good chance that there may be a pimple outbreak. Pimples can be very painful and may also cause unsightly scars. Keep your skin clean and oil free at all times by washing your face more frequently with facial wash. There are products that are created specifically for oil faces. Always keep a tube of face wash in your bag so that you can wash your face during the day, even when you are out.

The areas that need the most protection are the face, neck and hands. These areas are constantly exposed to the environment. During the day, it is normal for skin to be exposed to dirt, grime and bacteria. If you do nothing to help with skin regeneration, your skin will break down more rapidly.

To help your skin regenerate, you can use skin regeneration creams. There are two types of products that you can use. The first time will help remove dead skin on the surface of your skin and boost blood circulation. When you use this product, you will immediately see the radiance being restored to your skin. The second type of product involves active skin regeneration. Skin needs a cell regenerator known as CoQ10 to regenerate. CoQ10 can be produced naturally by the body. Unfortunately, for older people (those above 30), the rate of production starts to drop. You can boost the level of CoQ10 in your skin by using cell regeneration products.

That sounds like quite a handful of products to use. It may sound complicated at first due to the introduction of several types of products at one go. But if you think about it, all the different types of products exist for different purposes. If you put them together, you get a complete facial system. And this is exactly what you need to ensure that your skin remains healthy and youthful looking.

Patricia Wexler MMPi.20 Skin Regenerating Serum

Patricia Wexler MMPi.20 Skin Regenerating Serum

Serums are a step in the skin care routine that should be given more attention to. They pack a higher dose and a more concentrated form of the moisture, vitamins, antioxidants that your moisturizer has. They go on after your toner and before your moisturizer.

After my spending two weeks of winter in Italy and another week of fun in the sun in Bali, my skin was completely confused - it was flaking around my chin area and tight around my cheeks and oily on my forehead and nose. I needed something to combat dryness, infuse moisture, and repair the damage from being out in the sun. I picked this up at the store along with a bunch of other products and haven't looked back ever since.

The pink gel glides on to give your skin an instant smoothness and a blanket of hydration. I used this twice daily and it helped reverse the dryness that came with acne treatments and air conditioning. This handy serum is made for all skin types, so it doesn't matter if you have oily or dry or combination skin, this works for all. I've got extremely oily skin but I've discovered that not only does it not add to my shine problem like some serums do, it also helps balance the moisture level of my skin.

In a week, my skin looked healthier, smoother, softer and more plumped. Chock full of MMPi.20™, this serum reverses the signs of aging and stimulates the renewal of fresh skin cells. This is great for use after time spent in the sun or after harsh skin treatments to bring your skin back to prime condition.

On a completely separate note, my sister commented on how great my skin looked and how my brows stayed in place and wondered if I was using some sort of brow gel. I realized that because of the gel texture of this serum, you can also use this to tame unruly brows.
